Phase 2 of Marvel Studios’ rampaging superhero kingdom begins on May 3rd with IRON MAN 3′s release. That hasn’t done anything to stop the rumors flooding in about Phase 3, however, which we already know will feature Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN, and possibly DR. STRANGE.
Latino Review, the king of early rumors, may have found the next project in Phase 3, and it’s SPOILER HEAVY (though it could all be nothing)…. Read on for spoilers about future AVENGERS and Marvel properties…maybe.
They believe that AVENGERS 2 will finish with Hulk floating off into space, leading to his next solo film, which would mirror Greg Pak’s fan favorite storyline “Planet Hulk,” where Hulk takes on a bunch of aliens in a gladiatorial arena.
The site also believes that Marvel will be bringing the Illuminati, a top secret group filled with the most powerful and influential of Marvel’s superheroes, to the big screen. Considering that the group consisted of Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Charles Xavier, Reed Richards, Namor, and Iron Man; that the movie rights to Mr. Fantastic and Charles Xavier are held by other companies; and that, other than Iron Man, none of the other characters have been introduced, this will have to be very different from the comics version. That being said, it’s speculated that this group would be behind Bruce Banner’s space launch.
Then, this would lead back to AVENGERS 3, where Hulk returns to Earth and WORLD WAR HULK is the backdrop. It all seems rather Hulk-heavy, but that makes some sense considering Hulk’s surge in popularity following AVENGERS. That doesn’t mean I like it, however. I’m most skeptical of the Illuminati bits, but there’s no denying that Joss Whedon loves his underground conspiracies.
