While doing press duties for her upcoming role as a witch in HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, Famke Janssen was of course asked about her possible involvement in Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Here’s her response:
“I’m sitting by the phone waiting, call me up Bryan! I think their challenge is that I died as Jean Grey and I died as the Phoenix, so what else can they do. If they bring a younger version back, they’ll have to get a younger actress, so what is there left to do?“
Before this, she sounded more optimistic/cryptic: ”One never knows. Jean Grey, the Phoenix … she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows.“
If Singer and company want Jean Grey and/or Famke Janssen in the film, it’ll be easy to make happen, considering the film takes place in an alternate/dystopian future. I think fans will be ready to accept the scrapping of X3 anyhow.
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has returned Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman to the franchise, with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. It opens July 18th, 2014.
