Comic book publishers, for those of you who don’t know, like to do this thing where they publicize a new book by releasing a single image—often with mysterious text across it—and then wait around to see if anyone can figure out what’s going on before giving the BIG REVEAL. Sometimes only segments of the image are revealed at a time; sometimes it’s just creator names and an adjective (hi there, Marvel Now!).
Recently, Boom! Studios unloaded the following riddle upon us…
… Target? Carpet stain? Piece of meat? Nope. It was revealed this week that the title of the series is in fact SUICIDE RISK, and will be penned by the illustratious Mike Carey—known for epic runs on HELLBLAZER and X-MEN LEGACY, as well as his own series such as UNWRITTEN and CROSSSING MIDNIGHT. The story looks to be about superpowers developing in mass amounts of people at the same time, and they always end up on the evil side of things. Except for, y’know, the main character. Good times.
Here’s a fascinating tease from Dark Horse:
Somebody can travel in dreams! Or kills people while sleepwalking. Somehow I think the first scenario is more likely, as the series looks to be entitled DREAM THIEF. Details have yet to emerge.
Finally, there’s the following image from BOOM!, which, I am sorry to say, I have absolutely no guesses or speculations about, save that it seems to involve God and… swirly colored things. Are those chromosomes? Aliens? Algae? We’ll find out soon enough.
