Four New Actors Muddy Up Harry Osborn Casting

Just last week, it was purported that Sony/Marc Webb were looking for a dark and edgy actor to play the role of Harry Osborn, rather than the athletic and charismatic character James Franco played in the original SPIDER-MAN trilogy.

Now, it seems they may be backpedaling, as the news surfaces that four other actors have squeezed their way into the running, all of whom fit in the charismatic/sexy/athletic category, rather than the dark and edgy one. They are….

Douglas Booth, a young man who’s resume includes PILLARS OF THE EARTH, LOL, the upcoming ROMEO AND JULIET (as Romeo), and NOAH (not as Noah).

Then there’s Sam Claflin, who’s a rising star in Hollywood due to his role in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN as well as his having nabbed the role of Finnick Odair in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE. Curiously enough, he also had a role in PILLARS OF THE EARTH with Douglas Booth.

Then there’s Boyd Holbrook, who’s been in MILK, THE BIG C, HATFIELDS & MCCOYS, has a starring role in Stephanie Meyer’s THE HOST, as well as a starring role in Terrence Malick’s new project. Talk about anachronistic.

Finally, there’s Eddie Redmayne, another PILLARS OF THE EARTH alum (apparently it only starred sexy teens) with my favorite last names of the group. He made waves with his role in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, and is a part of the ensemble for the upcoming LES MISERABLES feature film.

We don’t yet know who will get the role, but these four join the previously mentioned (“dark and edgy”) Brady Corbet, Dane DeHaan, and Alden Ehrenreich in the ring to play Peter Parker’s bestie in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Anyone have any favorites?
