Recently, we learned that Frank Darabont is on board to rewrite the script for GODZILLA. Now we’ve learned that they have a star in mind for the leading role as well, AND that there will be two all new monsters in the film!
Nothing is set in stone, but the Powers That Be are eyeing Aaron Johnson (KICK-ASS, SAVAGES, ANNA KARENINA) for the lead role in the upcoming reboot of Toho’s GODZILLA. We have no idea yet if he has any interest, or if this is close to a done deal or if it’s just a wish list. We will soon find out.
The addition of all new monsters is news that came to light thanks to a webinar for its upcoming advertising slate:
The film will feature more than one monster, confirming that two new monsters will also be wreaking havoc – this in addition to the big guy.
Warner Bros. made it clear that their interpretation of the material “follows the story of a solider” and is “way different” than the Toho Godzilla films.
This “new” GODZILLA is set for a May 16th, 2014, release date. I’m not sure I’m as excited for it as I was before I wrote the article, I’ll say that much.
