It’s really hard to keep up with Guillermo Del Toro’s many projects, let alone imagine actually having to do them all. While it’ll be five years in between pictures (HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY), PACIFIC RIM starts a string of movies for the fan favorite.
Sounds like Del Toro is loving his partnership with Legendary Pictures, and is continuing the partnership with his next project, which is now official: CRIMSON PEAK, a haunted house story. His words: “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” The movie is written by Del Toro, Matthew Robbins, and Lucinda Coxon.
It also sounds like his H.P. Lovecraft adaptation AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS is being planned to follow CRIMSON PEAK, and may fly under the Legendary Pictures banner again. I’m happy that Del Toro is happy, and that he’s cleared up his schedule a bit. CRIMSON PEAK is set for a 2014 start, allowing him to work on his pilot for THE STRAIN, based on a book series he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan.
