Hayley Atwell Not Coming Back As Peggy Carter For “Captain America: Winter Soldier”

There hasn’t been much on the news front when it comes to Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER. We know the film returns Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Sebastian Stan to the mix, with Frank Grillo hired on to play the villainous Crossbones and Anthony Mackie joining as Falcon. It was assumed that Hayley Atwell would return as Peggy Carter, the flame of Steve Rogers/Cap in the first film. Of course, this would have been in flashbacks or heavy make up OR as Sharon Carter (her niece and future love interest for Cap; ew), since she didn’t end up in a block of ice for 60 years.

Well, she won’t be any of those things. Here’s the scoop: She won’t, she confirms, be back for the latter’s sequel, which moves the action into the present day.

She will be sorely missed!

The role of Sharon Carter was mentioned as coming down to Emilia Clarke, Imogen Poots, Alison Brie, Jessica Brown Findlay and Teresa Palmer many moons ago. Nothing else has been said. Marvel casting rumors has been a crapshoot of late (see GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY). Anthony and Joe Russo’s film is slated for an April 4th, 2014 release, so expect updates sooner rather than later.
