Jane Goldman To Write Live Action “Pinocchio”: Burton & Downey Jr. To Follow?

Add another PINOCCHIO movie to the mix, joining Mark Gustafson and Guillermo Del Toro’s animated film that stars Ron Perlman, Christopher Walken, and Tom Waits (the latter two merely rumored). This one, however, is live action, comes from WB, and has tapped Jane Goldman to write the script. Goldman is known for her work on THE WOMAN IN BLACK as well as co-writing Matthew Vaughn’s KICK-ASS and X-MEN: THE FIRST CLASS.

Goldman was hired to incorporate Robert Downey Jr.’s notes on the project, retooling Bryan Fuller’s (PUSHING DAISIES, MOCKINGBIRD LANE, and HANNIBAL) original draft. The studio hopes to entice Downey to join the project as Gepetto, as well as nab Tim Burton to direct the tale based on the classic story by Carlo Collodi.

Both projects have incredible people involved, but hopefully they don’t take away from each other by saturating the market with too much Pinocchio (he also appears from time to time on ONCE UPON A TIME). Only time will tell.
