Jason Clarke, one of the highlights and breakout stars of Kathryn Bigelow’s ZERO DARK THIRTY — and star of BROTHERHOOD, THE CHICAGO CODE, FARSCAPE, PUBLIC ENEMIES, and LAWLESS — now has a new role: that of leading man, in the sequel to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. That would be Matt Reeves’ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
According to the source, the action will be set 15 years after the events of RISE, and will have a split focus:
One focus is on the human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.
The screenplay has been worked on by Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, and Mark Bomback. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is aiming to swing into theaters May 23rd, 2014. I was hoping Jason Clarke would find himself on PENNY DREADFUL, but this is tremendous news for the rebooted franchise, as Clarke is a great actor and has stage presence for days.
