Kasdan & Kinberg Writing “Star Wars” Sequels

Well, that was fast. Now we know who will be writing the remainder of the STAR WARS sequels (for now).

Michael Arndt (of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, TOY STORY 3) is writing Episode VII, but now reports say that Disney and Lucasfilm have approached Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to work on the next couple films, VIII and IX. Lawrence Kasdan should be familiar to fanatics of the STAR WARS universe, as he helped make it into the behemoth that it is. The man wrote the scripts for EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI, as well as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Schwing!

Simon Kinberg has some hits in his resume as well, with SHERLOCK HOLMES, MR. AND MRS. SMITH, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, JUMPER, THIS MEANS WAR, and xXx: STATE OF THE UNION. Talk about up and down. He is currently writing the promising X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and is a veteran producer, with X-MEN: THE FIRST CLASS and ELYSIUM.

It sounds like both will be producers, and while the agreements haven’t been set, this looks like a lock, and it sounds like STAR WARS continues to plow forward with uncommon speed and precision. Episode VII is hurtling it’s way to us in 2015.
