About a week ago, it was reported, to much fanfare, that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg had been tabbed to write the subsequent sequels to Episode VII for Disney and LucasFilm.
Turns out, this wasn’t the complete story. It looks like Disney and LucasFilm, in their next go round with the STAR WARS universe, may be following Marvel Studios’ path to success, with spin-offs and solo adventures, and the Kasdan and Kinberg scripts may focus on individual characters from Episode VII rather than being sequels. The plan may be for a new film every 2-3 years, but, obviously, nothing is set in stone. This does appear to be the direction things are going, so prepare for endless Boba Fett drooling.
Kasdan, of course, wrote EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI, whereas Kinberg wrote X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, SHERLOCK HOLMES and the next X-Men film, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is set for a 2015 release, and that’s all we know for sure.
