Update: Mark Wahlberg IS In “Transformers 4″

UPDATED: Mark Wahlberg HAS joined the cast of T4, so forget all the other nonsense below.

“Mark is awesome…We had a blast working on ‘Pain and Gain’ and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.”

This is a case where unfounded rumors may have spurned actual news. Mark Wahlberg was noted as having met with Michael Bay, creating a firestorm of buzz that perhaps Wahlberg would be involved in TRANSFORMERS 4 (after three mediocre movies, I’m surprised how excited people continually get for Michael Bay’s latest foray into the Hasbro franchise). Anyways, this was not the case, Bay says, as they were talking about PAIN AND GAIN, another movie they’re working on together. But wait a minute…

I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be starring in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance – well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.

I feel dirty for feeding the flames, but Mark Wahlberg could make TRANSFORMERS 4 a helluva lot more interesting. But why would Wahlberg join a franchise mid-stream, particularly one in flux (answer: money)? We’ll see if this is anything more than Bay just being a $@#$ tease in the coming days/weeks/months. T4 is Bay’s last TRANSFORMERS flick, will supposedly have a pace dominated plot, and is set for a June 27, 2014, release.
