Harry Beck has a carefree life in the Bahamas, with few responsibilities and fewer commitments.

His peaceful life is shattered when people are brutally killed, his friend goes missing, his home is ransacked and the girl who crews for him is tortured and left for dead.

When evidence that a cartel of rich and influential people are using the Bahamas as a gateway through which to traffic children from Haiti and Cuba points to his missing friend, Harry is forced to fight back.

In a thrilling story of friendship, murder, and betrayal, set against the idyllic background of the Bahamas, Harry Beck is forced to re-evaluate his life, and make some difficult choices about his future and, reluctantly, take responsibility and show commitment to those he holds dear.

He has two friends from boyhood. Can he trust either? Can he trust anyone?

It actually came as quite a surprise to me when I found out that Maynard & Sims had written a non-supernatural novel. I have been a big fan of their supernatural tales for quite some time and was very intrigued in what this new book would be like.

I am very happy to say that they have not lost any of their literary power by stepping out of the supernatural genre. DARK OF THE SUN is awesome.

Now I don’t usually step out of my comfort zone, which is horror, not because I don’t like other genres, there just isn’t enough time in a day for me to read much of other genres. But I can tell you one thing I will be reading whatever Maynard & Sims writes.

DARK OF THE SUN deals with a subject that unfortunately still exists in today’s world, the explotaition and trafficking of children.  And in my opinion anyone involved in this heinous crime should be put to death in a horrible and painful fashion.

Right from the start Maynard & Sims draw you into the story with exceptional characterizations. Their characters are very lifelike and believable, which as I have stated before is what makes a story for me.

DARK OF THE SUN is full of action, mystery and intrigue, with enough twists and turns to make your head spin. Believe me once you get drawn into this story you will not be able to put it down until you finish it. There we a couple times where I thought I knew what was going on and had everything figured out when they would just completely turn things around on me. I absolutely love when a story does this.

If you are looking to step out of the horror genre and want to read something fresh, different and exciting DARK OF THE SUN is a great place to start and I highly recommend it.
