Shawn Levy Out, Paul McGuigan In On “Frankenstein”

Frankenstein's Monster

Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) had been in talks to direct FOX’s FRANKENSTEIN, but that is no more. There is no solid reason given to us, but I’d wager that it’s Levy’s busy schedule rather than any sort of friction between the studio and Levy. That or the rumored budget constraints.

The replacement looks to be Paul McGuigan, who directed PUSH and LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN. The reimagining of Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN is written by Chronicle’s Max Landis.

If you want to know a little bit more about Landis’ take, check out the following from a previous interview: ”I began to pick apart our knowledge of ‘Frankenstein’ and discovered that the public’s idea of this myth comes from a million different places…I became committed to recontextualizing it all so it all worked in one story. By the end of the day, it’s a period piece and yes, it’s from Igor’s perspective, but man it’s cool. It’s the best thing I’ve written.”
