Summer isn’t generally the best time to air shows if you’re CBS, but this one sounds promising. Stephen King’s UNDER THE DOME — the massive tome detailing a small town’s struggle to survive when a dome inexplicably surrounds the town, blocking it out from the rest of the world — is coming to TV. It’s brilliant stuff, and makes for a fantastic mini-series.
The potential idea for a series has been bouncing around for awhile now. Showtime was circling the property back in 2011 but it’s CBS who has snapped up the rights and ordered it direct to series, bypassing the pilot process altogether, clearly with an intent to get this puppy out there into the world ASAP.
Niels Arden Oplev (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, the original) will be directing the first episode, and the series has been adapted by Brian K. Vaughan, the genius behind Y: THE LAST MAN and a veteran of LOST.
13 episodes are planned for summer 2013. Be there!
