Del Toro keeps adding things to his docket like he’s trying to win the award for longest IMDB page. He has a long ways to go, but after confirming that CRIMSON PEAK would be his next picture, PACIFIC RIM 2 was greenlit and given a script order, with Travis Beacham developing it. PACIFIC RIM is Del Toro’s baby, and the early word is fantastic, so this news seemed to muddy everything up a bit, because if Del Toro wanted to direct, he’d probably have to push CRIMSON PEAK back.
When asked about the order and priority, he said the following: “We’re going to do Crimson Peak first…We’re going to write the screenplay [for Pacific Rim 2] and take it from there. Depending on the screenplay, I’ll do it or not.“ So, CRIMSON PEAK is next after PACIFIC RIM, which hits theaters July 12th, 2013, and PACIFIC RIM 2 could be close on its heels.
