John Carpenter’s returning to Haddonfield for another sequel to his 1978 slasher classic, HALLOWEEN. Variety reports the director of other esteemed flicks like THE THING and STARMAN is on board to exec produce the next installment in the long-running Michael Myers saga.
The 68-year-old director-writer-composer-actor said, “Thirty-eight years after the original HALLOWEEN, I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all.” (He seems to be counting Rob Zombie’s oughts remakes of both HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II as sequels.)
He will co-produce with Jason Blum (THE CONJURING, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, INSIDIOUS, SINISTER, THE GIFT, THE VISIT) and Malek Akkad, who produced the tepidly received Rob Zombie remakes. Blum’s Blumhouse Productions is joining with Miramax to co-finance.
No word on whether original star Jamie Lee Curtis will participate, but Bloody Disgusting reports that Mike Flanagan (OCULUS) is in talks to direct the film.
