I’m certain I’ve mentioned this before but, when it comes to STAR TREK collectibles, there just aren’t as many as one would think. Compared to other intellectual properties such as Star Wars, Transformers, and even Universal Monsters, there just isn’t an equal Trek presence in the collectible world. The overall consensus is that Star Trek collectibles just don’t sell as well, or are in as high demand as other properties.

This is most noticeable in the current high-end 1/6th scale market. Whereas almost every topic of interest has been produced at some point, Star Trek has mostly been left to the custom market. That’s not to say there haven’t been worthwhile figures produced in the past. Diamond Select have recently produced some pretty impressive Trek figures. With the exception of the horrendous figures from the 2009 film, Playmates have made some pretty fun action figures related to almost every Trek series over the years. Going even further back, the Mego line from the ’70s is still spectacular, and the reproductions—again by Diamond Select—are a great, inexpensive way to collect that retro line.

However, for the collector who wants just a bit more to his/her Star Trek figures, there isn’t much variety. With their One:12 Star Trek Collective line, it seems the team at Mezco Toyz is about to change the game. The first two figures in the line have been previewed and placed on pre-order, and they look fantastic.

Based on the original series, the first two releases will be Spock and Hikaru Sulu. Spock was an expected starting point, but I was impressed with Sulu as the second figure, seeing as a Kirk figure under most circumstances would have been a shoo-in for figure one or two. But the Chief Helmsman of the USS Enterprise is what we’re getting, and I couldn’t be happier.

Mezco isn’t a company I often buy from. I have admired their Living Dead Dolls since the first series, and have noticed definite growth in quality and quantity. They’re a fun company to watch, but until this One:12 Trek line, I hadn’t been interested enough to buy from them. At $70 a pop, you bet I will finally have the Star Trek line I’ve been waiting for. I only hope that Mezco makes an Enterprise bridge playset down the line, or at least a captain’s chair for Kirk. Either way, read on and enjoy the pictures; if the final products are as good as the prototypes, then Trekkies are in for a treat.

Spock8

The One:12 Collective is proud to present one of the most iconic and enduring characters in the pop culture lexicon: Spock from the original Star Trek series.

First introduced to audiences in 1966, the Star Trek series was a landmark show that sparked countless fans’ a love of science, space and technology, and inspired many real world inventions. Sulu5

From the original Star Trek series and the bridge of USS Enterprise NCC-1701 comes Chief Helmsman, Hikaru Sulu, one of the iconic series’ most celebrated crew members. The groundbreaking character of Mr. Sulu, portrayed by the inimitable George Takei, bravely guided the starship during its original five-year mission.
Sulu was originally the department head of Astrosciences; he was also an accomplished botanist, fencer, noted expert on projectile weapons, and pilot of “antique” aircraft. He assumed command of the ship on at least four occasions, repeatedly proving himself a skilled and valuable member of the Enterprise crew.  Hikaru Sulu went on to become Captain of his own vessel and was honored with a holographic portrait in Starfleet Headquarters.
