The third and final day of Famous Monsters’ inaugural Silver Scream Fest kicked off with a real-time painting of the Joker by ambidextrous artist Rob Prior. Having been part of the show since day one, he’s painted in his unique style, listening to music, using Windex, in his Zone, surrounded by a crowd of fascinated onlookers.
Fielding questions from onlookers after he was finished, he explained how he came to paint ambidextrously: Born right-handed, he came to the frightful consideration as a child, what if he lost his right hand? So he trained his left hand to do everything his right did. We’ve all been there, right?
Another fan asked what music he listened to when he painted, and he said that he generally let the painting dictate the music. When he painted the Bride of Frankenstein earlier this weekend, it was classical. When he painted the Joker, it was Mudvayne and Pantera.

Total time elapsed for him to create this artwork? 26 minutes.
We’ve still got a lot of short films screening this afternoon, in addition to classics like MANIAC COP 2 and VENOM. And don’t forget about the awards show at 3:30. If you’re in the area, come on down and support independent artists!
See you there!
